Battery Tester

This is the hardware in the wooden “shadow” box with the 4-line x 40 character LCD display. It is used to develop programs for the included Parallax Stamp II microcontroller. In addition to the display it has a 6-position “Mode” switch, an up-down momentary switch, a PC-compatible serial port, and a D-25 P connector with five input and five parallel outputs. It is powered by an internal switching power supply with a 9V rechargeable backup battery. It is programmed in its special Basic via the Parallax editor on a PC connected to the microcontroller via a serial link to its programming port. Accurate timekeeping is provided by a digital watch circuit with a crystal-controlled 32 Hz output.

Connection Box

This device is presently used to cycle rechargeable batteries while measuring the charging and discharging currents and summing them to get milliampere-hours.

A cable harness connects to a connection box fastened under a low shelf over a table for easy connections. A relay changes between charging and discharging at a preset MAH, and stops discharging a a preset voltage. the previous MAH  is stored for recording. A charging power supply and charge limiting resistor must be provided.

It is connected and instantly available.
